When flying from Philippines to Malaysia, I scheduled a strategic 21-hour layover on a Wednesday night (which I’d find is ladies night) in Singapore. As my time there was VERY short, I didn’t get to fully explore what the city has to offer. But, I found Singapore to be a visually stunning city of lights, gardens, and innovative architectural design…an artificial beauty. Had I ventured further outside of the city I think I would’ve found some Mother Earth treasures. I’ve heard there are some beautiful hikes. But to me, the city had a constructed feel.
That being said, this is what I experienced during my all-too-quick evening in Singapore.
After finding my hostel in Little India and settling in, I grabbed some Indian food from around the corner and transformed into full tourist mode. I took the subway, exited, and wandered the underground shopping mall maze in search of the bay. Spotting an Indian man who shared my uncertain expression, I approached him. He was looking for the same public light show. So we teamed up and I asked a lot of people directions until we found Marina Bay, just in time to sit and exchange fragments of our stories before the fountain, lights, and music took us to a different dimension. Honestly, this was the coolest fountain show I’ve ever witnessed. Classy symphonic sounds and intelligently placed lasers and projections brought the water to life. After this 15 minute performance I walked around the bay, past extravagant hotels and the lotus flower shaped ArtScience museum, and found my way to the Gardens by the Bay. More specifically, I was going to see the Super Tree Garden. Winding through this expansive greenspace, I arrived to Pandora on Earth. Literally, the sculpted trees looked straight out of Avatar. Click here if you didn’t catch that reference. I laid on the concrete with my sweater behind my head and I watched another free light show. The music was more dramatic here…think, intense movie soundtrack. The trees transitioned to different colors, tiny lights flashed with such detail that the trees began to dance. Of course it wasn’t like when living trees wave and flow, but it was a mesmerizing new kind of synchronization.
Wednesday is conveniently “Ladies Night” throughout the city, so I left the gardens and I elevated to the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel to their 360-degree view rooftop bar, “Cé La Vi.” I’m confused why they didn’t spell it “c’est la vie”…but the hotel is taller than the Eiffel Tower, and both the entrance fee and my gin and tonic were on the house, so I’ll ignore their disregard to French grammar.
I returned to my hostel in Little India and called it a night, and woke up for my free breakfast. Like I said before, my time in Singapore was far too short but I’m thankful for the fortunate timing and that I managed to see most of what I’d desired.

Way cool! Some very valid points! I appreciate you penning this post and the rest of
the website is also really good.
