Don Det (4000 Islands)

I took a sleeper bus (for my first time ever) south to Don Det, also known as 4000 islands. Every patch of un-submerged grass counts as an island here, so maybe there actually are 4000. Laos is a landlocked country, so to clarify, these islands exist in the Mekong river. I heard they recount the number of islands annually, but I’m not sure if that’s true and I honestly don’t know who is doing the counting.

I spent a few days here relaxing. I went on a run, walked around a lot, saw some waterfalls, enjoyed the stunning sunsets, kayaked, went dolphin watching for the Irrawaddy river dolphins, a butterfly landed on my knee, played with kids and sleepy animals, and ate a LOT.

I’ll leave it at that and let the photos say the rest.
