The USA Fascination

July 10th, 2017

The value placed on American anything is out of proportion. From what I’ve observed and learned through conversation is that often, things here that claim “American standard,” “USA grade,” or even have a white person involved is given greater credibility. This is a problem. Perhaps this is an idea rooted in western colonialism, but I’d assume after the separation from the west and the winning of independence, Ghana would have the opposite reaction, chastising whatever is West. But, with the whole world seeking Western development, it does make some sense to pedestal the USA. America is undeniably a global leader, even with our fool of a president, and I think that leadership is a difficult for developing countries to ignore. The “land of opportunity” sounds pretty grand when your homeland has a hard time providing a lot of those.
