Photos from Kumasi:

Learned about Adinkra Symbols and the stages of ink processing. They are often used in funeral contexts and represent the spirit of the departed person. Now they are used a little more freely as a form of self-expression. I made two prints.

Palace visit:

Kumasi Central Market: I was feeling sick this weekend, and this was my breaking point. Walking through the market with the mix of dried, salted fish, human sweat, animal organs and chunks of meat baking in the sun and dust, my face was green and I choked back gags and stopped breathing to manage my nausea. I almost broke when I heard a loud chop and crunch of bone to my right and felt a splinter of meat and bone fly into my cheek, arm, and into my hair. I’m usually tough and comfortable, but 40 minutes in this claustrobic maze was enough for my life time.

Had a few hours to relax and contemplate vegetarianism before dinner and sliding by a spot with a live band.
