Today I learned that each country establishes their own size for a standard drink and recommended low-risk number of drinks. There is no globally established standard. These variations are likely heavily persuaded by the level of prominence of the alcohol industry, and raises a lot of questions linked to differences in physiological response to alcohol, the history of alcohol prevalence and consumption, and the oscillation of cultural/regional norms between unit standardization for alcohol use in each country.
